Question for Buffy fanatics!

Ok so I was talking/arguing with my friends about Buffy last night. They are all (mostly) fans of Spike. While I like him, I like Buffy and Angel together. But anyway, so not the point. They argued that they didnt like Angel because he tried to attack Buffy when he was Angelus - his true form - and Spike didnt/wouldnt because he loves her and is a good guy. They claimed that Spike doesnt has a soul and doesnt need one to be good like Angel does. This is not correct is it. I know it started out as Spike couldnt do harm because of his chip and then he developed his soul after doing good and thats when he fell in love with Buffy. After he got a soul like Angel. Agree? DIsagree? Explain. Please! Thank You!

First, you should probably point out that Spike actually DID do harm to Buffy. In season 6, when his obsession with her was at it's peak, he tried to rape her. Luckily, she was able to fight him off and that's what sent him off in search for a soul.

Spike didn't get a soul until season 7 of Buffy. Now, there were instances in earlier seasons when he did some good. He helped the group and he watched over Dawn but a lot of the 'good' he did was because he couldn't be 'evil' anymore, thanks to his chip.

Spike was given the chip in season 4 and that kept him from attacking humans. He could still attack demons which is why he started working with the Scooby gang in the first place. He needed something to fight, regardless of what that something was. After Buffy died for the second time in season 6, she came back 'different'. For whatever reason, Spike's chip no longer worked on her and that's why he was able to attack her.

Spike finally got his chip removed in season 7 but by that time, he had a soul so that kept him from reverting to his old human-killing ways.

Hopefully some of that made sense:) It basically boils down to the fact that without a soul, both Spike and Angelus did horrible things. Once they both had a soul, they were more or less good guys.

Yes! Thanks so much. I know it, Lol. Now I am so prepared for the next argument, which is bond to happen soon. :P I forgot about the rape thing. I remembered him using the Buffybot, but frogot about that. OMG! Thanks.Im actually excited for this now that I have all the facts. You even gave me the seasons too! SQUEE!!!.........................Yeah so theres not that much else to do around here. Lol. The little things make me happy.

well I would say it started out that Spike was trying to do harm to Buffy. But then the rest is right.

My real thouhgts on it is that a Vamp in the Weidonverse is sort of stuck in the emotional place he was when he died. Spike died while feeling an overwhelming Romantic Love and just sort of staied there, first with Dreue then with Buffy.

Ah, but Angel never attacked Buffy when he was Angel. Spike ALWAYS attacked Buffy - Chip in head, no chip in head. Heck, he even tried to rape her. Sorry Captain Peroxide, I'm a fan of whiny Angel all the way.
